Paulo Cesar Pereira is a versatile instrumentalist, improviser, composer and sound engineer who plays cello, fretless bass and guitar – music from Bach to Bossa Nova, by way of Jazz, Rock, and the Blues. Music crafted from the page, and music improvised from the heart. In his native Brazil, Paulo played cello for three years (1989-1992) at the Chamber Orchestra of Universidade Federal de Goias, and for eight years (1993-2001) with the Goiania Symphony Orchestra. During that time he also played in local jazz clubs. He is currently based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he performs for both public and private occasions, writes music, and gives private lessons. Paulo enjoys playing Bach, Villa-Lobos, Piazzola, Shostakovich, Bartok, and Jobim.
Paulo's most recent public performance (February 2010) was a fundraiser for the earthquake victims in Haiti. Paulo is presently working on a CD of new compositions and improvisations to be released in the Fall of 2010. Stay tuned for this release and other news!
